Description

Excellent visibility, great summer launch.

For this launch, I was endurance testing the new rocket (5th flight). For this rocket, this is the highest altitude 11598 feet AGL and velocity at mach 0.94 achieved so far. Total Gs on the rocket was 9, but it was pulling continuously over 4Gs for 5.8 seconds.

All charges fired at appropriate times. I am very happy with both performance from my own circuitry (primary electronics) and the raven (backup).

I waited for a very wind calm day to do this test as I wanted to make sure that I solved the problem of main popping at apogee that occurred on the first flight. Since the first flight, I swapped electronics and adjusted powder amount. I then followed by a few lower altitude flights to confirm all was good. This high altitude high velocity drogue deployment confirms proper operation.

Heat was not an issue, but I did launch fairly early at 10:53AM. Historical weather says outdoor temperature was 90°F at the time. At launch, phone battery temperature was 98.96°F. It increased due to recording 4K video to 112.1°F by flight completion. The number did not appear to be rising any higher and had reached a plateau, so heat dissipation was working excellent. These numbers are well under the phone's limit of 140°F (at this temperature, auto shutdown occurs).
